Derma Roller Procedure

Dermaroller Overview

Dermaroller devices are the latest skin rejuvenation techniques to help restore a healthy, flawless and youthful appearance to the skin.

Dermaroller can improve the appearance of:

Acne scars

Aged and sun-damaged skin

Facial and décolletage lines and wrinkles

Crêpe skin on the back of the hands

Stretch marks

Although improvement will be seen after one treatment, for maximum results 2 or 3 treatments at 6 weekly intervals may be necessary.

Dermaroller works through two modes of action:

The needles penetrate through the skin to provide micro-channels to maximise the absorption of the topically applied skincare product

The micro-channels induce independent stimulation of new collagen and elastin synthesis, resulting from the skin's natural healing response. Ultimately, skin strength, structure and resilience

The Dermaroller has similar results to Laser resurfacing, Fraxel and chemical peels with a broad range of advantages and benefits:

Suitable for all skin types
Does not induce skin sensitivity to UV light
Personal models are painless and can be used at home.
Does not cause skin damage (no ablation/removal of the epidermis)
Can be used on the face, neck, décolleté and any other parts of the body requiring treatment
Can be used on thin skin formerly treated with chemical peels and laser
Does not pose a risk of permanent skin discolouration
Enhances Iontophoresis and Sonophoresis treatments
Cost effective treatment alternative
Short or no healing time
Easy and safe to use

The only skin needling device comprised of precision engineered titanium needles that deliver the most pain-free treatment experience from the very first use to the very last.

Both the Titanium Dermaroller and Titanium Dermastamp can be re-used for up to six months making it an extremely cost effective alternative to many cosmetic treatments.

What is the Medik8 Titanium Dermaroller?

Available for Advanced Cosmetic Centre in Bournemouth The Medik8 Titanium Dermaroller is a multipurpose device used for the treatment of various skin conditions such as wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, cellulite and stretch marks.

It has a cylindrical barrel with precision engineered titanium microneedles which penetrate the top layers of skin without causing damage or bleeding.

What is the Medik8 Titanium Dermastamp?

The Medik8 Titanium Dermastamp is an alternative, targeted form of skin needling, boasting the benefits of the Titanium Dermaroller but with enhanced precision for specific, localised skin problems and hard to reach areas. The Titanium Dermastamp has a circular head comprising 38 titanium microneedles with an enhanced grip for greater control and accuracy and suitable for use on the delicate under-eye and peri-oral areas.

This innovative device can be used in combination with the Dermaroller or as a separate treatment for independent skin concerns.

How does the Dermaroller work?

The procedure involved in treatment with the Medik8 Titanium Dermaroller and Titanium Dermastamp is commonly known as Skin Needling or Collagen Induction Therapy and is designed to trigger new collagen synthesis in the skin, leading to younger, brighter and healthier-looking skin. As you roll or stamp the device over your skin, numerous, ultra-fine micro-needles designed to penetrate through the epidermis create microscopic punctures on the skin's surface. By opening the skin in this way you not only dramatically increase the penetration of any topical product, increasing its efficacy, but you also create miniature perforations that stimulate the skin's healing mechanisms, increasing production of many important factors for a healthy skin.

The concept of Skin Needling or Collagen Induction Therapy is based on the skin's natural ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical damage, such as cuts, burns and other abrasions. Immediately after an injury occurs to the skin, our body reuses the damaged collagen and elastin fibres as well as other damaged skin components to produce new ones. Skin Needling allows for controlled induction of the skin's self repair mechanism by creating micro-"injuries" in the skin which trigger new collagen synthesis, yet does not pose the risk of permanent scarring.

What can Dermaroller do for me?

Medik8 Titanium Dermaroller and Titanium Dermastamp dramatically enhance the penetration of active ingredients from your topical creams and serums, leading to a massive increase in their efficacy.

The Medik8 Titanium Dermaroller and Titanium Dermastamp in conjunction with Medik8 cosmeceuticals stimulates new collagen production, thereby leading to a visible reduction of wrinkles and scars, as well as increase in skin firmness. Thickening of the skin caused by regular use of the Medik8 Titanium Skin Needling device significantly reduces the visibility of broken capillaries as well as uneven pigmentation.

Expect to see a visible improvement in skin appearance after just one month of regular use of the device.

The Medik8 Titanium Dermaroller and Titanium Dermastamp available in 0.2mm and 0.3mm for home use, have sharp, durable titanium needles that do not cause appreciable pain or bleeding.

FAQs - Regarding the Dermaroller Treatments

Q. This sounds painful - I don't like needles!

A. A local anaesthetic cream is applied to the skin 30 minutes prior to the treatment which numbs the skin, making the treatment relatively pain-free.

Q. Will it help all types of acne scars?

A. The Dermaroller improves the wider shallow rolling type of acne scar. It is less effective in treating the deep ice-pick type acne scars, as these are deeply tethered in the skin by fibrous bands.

Q. Why does the dermaroller treatment claim to help acne scars and fine lines and wrinkles - aren't these different?

A. The Dermaroller works by stimulating the skin to produce new collagen in the deeper layers of the skin. This plumps out both the shallow scars found in acne and fine lines and wrinkles.

Q. Can Derma Roller treatments be combined with other cosmetic treatments?

A. Yes - The Dermaroller can be used with both Botox® and Dermal Fillers.

Q. How long does the benefits last?

A. Because of natural ageing, I normally expect to have to repeat the treatment once every 12 - 18 months to maintain the improvement.

Q. What happens at my first visit?

A. You will have a thorough medical assessment during which your concerns will be discussed. If I am able to help you, we will fully discuss each treatment option, possible side-effects, how often you would have to return for more treatments and the costs involved before you decide if you wish to proceed.

Q. What can and can't I do after the dermaroller treatment?

A. Life carries on as normal after treatment with the Dermaroller, except that you are asked not to take part in vigorous exercise for 3 hours or apply make-up for 2 days. You should not rub the area after the treatment. You will be asked to wear a sun-block for 2 - 3 months.

Q. What are the side-effects of the Dermaroller?

A. It is rare to have any side-effects from the Dermaroller, but some people may notice a temporary darkening of the skin (post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation) which may last for several weeks. If you are susceptible to cold sores you may need to take anti-viral medication to prevent a flare-up. Rarely you may develop little white heads after treatment especially if you apply heavy make-up immediately afterwards.
